We Grow through worship, fellowship, and study. Since God made us to love each other (we were created to be related!), we believe that you cannot be a Christian all by yourself. So, we gather together each week to worship and then we share a time of fellowship afterward. Before worship, all age groups in our congregation meet for Sunday School to learn more about the Bible so that we can more intentionally live out our faith and more fully glorify our God. We Serve because the good news of God’s love is too good to keep under wraps and because we want to share God’s blessings with all. Since 1969, we have offered a free pre-school program for Crawfordsville children. We also open the doors of our church facility to house the recovery groups of our community, the Montgomery County Hispanic Center, and the FISH Clothing Closet. We also donate blood, purchase back-to-school clothing for local children, distribute free trees, purchase unwanted weapons, and sponsor an annual congregational mission trip. In addition, we financially support the following local agencies and causes: The Family Crisis Shelter, FISH, The Christian Nursing Service, The Youth Service Bureau, Habitat for Humanity, and others. Our goal is to wrap our arms around God’s world. Our Heritage The very first Christian worship service in Montgomery County was a Presbyterian service held in an unfinished log cabin in 1822. In 1824, the first congregation of Presbyterians formed. Early pastors and elders served as faculty and trustees at nearby Wabash College beginning with its founding in 1832. Two congregations merged in 1921 to form Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church. The current sanctuary was built in 1881 and was most recently renovated in 1996. Our Future We are eagerly anticipating and joyfully working toward the day when God’s kingdom comes: when God’s will is established on earth as it is in heaven – when God’s gracious realm of love, justice, and peace will include all humanity and creation in God’s unending embrace and blessing. Toward that end, we worship and serve, looking to add our piece / peace to the future God intends. We believe that future is coming, and, relying on God’s grace, we believe the time to put that future into action is now. We invite you to join us in sharing God’s grace and love with all. |
